We’re a Queensland husband and wife with two kids, and this site is where we write down what we’ve worked out.
How we got here
We’ve always been the sort of people who’d rather be out somewhere than not. In 2022 we stopped talking about it and went — a full year on the road with the kids, working out the hard way what holds up and what doesn’t.
We came back to North Queensland after that, and we’re still out camping and adventuring as often as we can get away. The van still gets used. The gear still gets tested.
Why the electrical stuff is the bulk of it
One of us is a trade qualified electrician and telecommunications tradesman. That’s why a lot of this site is 12V systems, batteries, inverters and wiring — it’s the area where we can tell you something more useful than a product description.
There’s a lot of confidently wrong advice about caravan electrics floating around. Forum threads that’ll cook a battery bank. Rules of thumb that stopped being true three battery chemistries ago. We try to explain how the thing actually works, so you can make your own call rather than take ours on faith.

How we write
We write about gear we’ve used. If we haven’t used something, we say so.

One thing worth saying plainly: caravan and 4×4 electrical work carries real risk. Getting it wrong can mean a fire, a ruined battery bank, or worse. Anything involving 240V, or work that needs to be certified, should be done by a licensed electrician in your state. We explain the principles — we can’t inspect your rig.
